“Charli, I’ll have my usual coffee”: Introducing Wesley Place’s smart app

08.07.2019

It is the year 2019, and we are living and working in a society fuelled by immediacy and flexibility. Technologies are regularly doubling in capacity, and on-demand services like Netflix or UberEats are bringing personalised products and services to Melburnians’ fingertips. In fact, anyone can access almost any piece of information with the simple tap of a button.

When it comes to delivering this level of convenience in office environments, workplaces have also had to change to meet the needs of the changing workforce through smart technologies and world-class amenities. To bring a future-ready vision to life on our historical grounds, Wesley Place has enlisted the help of dedicated technology innovators and experts who are activating, automating and integrating best-in-class technologies in all corners of the 1.1-hectare precinct.

You may have already heard about the range of technological innovations in store for the Wesley Place from state-of-the-art End of Trip (EOT) facilities to electronic vehicle charging stations with perhaps the most exciting of all being the Charli app. This workplace experience app created by Charter Hall aims to connect people to place for a better and more productive work day.

Introducing Charli, your personal building assistant
Does an app that books your Pilates class, sends real-time building updates, handles tenant requests and orders your lunch sound like science fiction? Charli is a smart building app that connects every member of the Wesley Place community to their building and the wider precinct. The app on your smartphones becomes your easy office security swipe, it also gives access to lockers in our EOT facilities, and provide updates on upcoming precinct events in the precinct.

Through the sleek, user-friendly interface in your palm, you can order food and beverage, book spaces in your building for meetings or events, flag maintenance issues with building management and even contact your building concierge for help with your to-do list. A handy library of building-specific documents will even be housed on the Charli server, so that you can request a copy and have it emailed to you instantly.

And it’s not just an app - Wesley Place’s Charli offering is supported by a range of on-site tenant experiences, activations and activities designed to build community, from meditation and yoga sessions to networking opportunities that bring the whole building together.

Building a tech-enabled destination
“Our main focus,” says Charter Hall Regional Development Director Simon Stockfeld, “is to create a seamless experience for visitors and workers alike.”

The Wesley Place experience is designed to cater to every visitor, congregation member, tenant or employee that sets foot in our modern destination. So from Public Wi-Fi, to smart waste monitoring systems, real-time dashboards in the lobbies and lifts and electronic vehicle charging points in the car park, technological advancements are designed to make life easier and more enjoyable for all.

“Our biggest goal is to create smart buildings that will evolve with the community: not islands of automation or siloed solutions that can’t be scaled or changed as needed,” says Simon. Solutions like Charli are infinitely developable, meaning that we can keep building on the existing framework as technology advances and workers request new features along the way.
