Get on your bike for Ride2Work Day

Make the most of your two wheels whether you’re riding to work or working remotely

Riding to work is one of the easiest and most time-efficient ways to fit daily exercise into your routine. By swapping the car, train or bus for a bike, you can save money, while helping the environment and improving your fitness.

To celebrate Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 10 November why not ride your bike around your local area or venture a little further to explore surrounding suburbs and get out in nature this spring.

Steps to start riding your bike
Sometimes getting started is the hardest part. But all it takes is three simple steps according to The Bicycle Network:

  1. Find your ride
You don’t need to have the latest or greatest bike to get started so why not try borrowing your neighbour’s bike, buying one second-hard or visiting your local bike shop.

  2. Plan your ride
If you’re riding your bike to work or around your neighbourhood for the first time, you might like to find somewhere off the road, like a bike path or shared trail. Click here for free cycle routes near you, provided by Vic Roads.

  3. Enjoy your ride
Get pedalling and have fun, it’s that simple.

The benefits of riding to work
There are many health, social, financial and environmental benefits to riding your bike. Some benefits include:

  • Low impact exercise which causes less strain and injuries
  • A good muscle workout that engages a range of muscle groups
  • A fun way to get fit combining physical exercise with being outdoors
  • Improved mental health and lower levels of stress and anxiety
  • Helps the environment by reducing carbon emissions from other transportation methods
